EVO 2010 After Math.

I'm still recovering from a crazy ass weekend. EVO did it up sick this year. I couldn't have thought of a classier joint then Caesars Palace to get things popping real proper like. I�ll come back tomorrow with more coverage of the event. For now I�ll leave you some pictures to keep you posted.

Just real quick before I crash out, I just have to give a quick shout out to everyone in the finals of every tournament, but especially the old school 2D gamers from Street Fighter 2 HD Remix. In my humble opinion, the HDR guys gave us some of the most entertaining matches to watch and had every one sitting at the edge of their seats. Special shout out to my boys DGV and Snake Eyez, I didn�t know who to cheer for at the end, but I was just happy you guys gave such an outstanding performance. You guys had me screaming like a little girl at times. That match alone was worth the trip.

Roach Coach Battle Royal Properly Known As �LA Street Food Fest�

Summers coming around here in Los Angeles and everyone�s looking for the next big event to check out. As native Angelino�s we feel it�s our duty to report to the people what�s popping out here in World Champion Laker land(Two times running might I add). Through a friend of a friend of not a friend, but more like an associate, we heard about this thing called the LA Street Food Fest. From what I�ve gathered so far, this is my summery and why I�m excited about this event. Tons of street food venders all gathered in one place competing for the title of King of the Street food.

Seibon Event Cover

First and foremost, all of the nineoutof10 staff and I would like to thank everyone that showed up to the 1st annual Seibon Customer Appreciation event. Shout outs to Seibon for letting us showcase our gear and be a part of this ground-breaking event. The event had a great turn out and we see good things in the future and future events. The whole thing had a very humble down-to-earth feel. Participants didn�t have to shell out big bucks to get in. Taking a step back to look at the whole event, there was a good mixture of urban culture ranging from auto motive sports, fashion to alternative sports. It wasn't an easy thing to come out in the blazing heat of 100 plus degree weather but you guys did and we certainly appreciate each and every one of you for that. Mad props to the Retaks bike riders busting crazy tricks under the hot cali sun to keep us all entertained. Aside from all the supporters that showed up, we definitely cannot forget our neighboring vendors--each of whom we were given the opportunity to meet and kick it with. Props to Bowls, Par Lay, and Cooler Master. We heard that the weather was actually supposed to be over 300 degrees, but luckily Cooler Master showed up and drastically brought the weather down. Extra thanks to Cooler Master for actually controlling whether, mad props. Now that you all got a chance to meet us and check out our designs, the next thing on our agenda is to get into a store near you. From here on out we will be doing a lot of footwork to cover ground. If you saw our designs and feel our creative creations, be sure to ask about us at your local store. We promise to visit them shortly.

Anyone that knows anything about the fashion industry knows about the Magic show. It�s not the type of show with magicians pulling rabbits out of hats. This is the place clothing brands get together to exhibit their new line up to potential buyers from all over the world. This is our first year attending. Even though we didn�t get a booth, it was a great experience to meet everyone else in the industry. Now we know how hard we have to work to catch up with the big boys. Basically for fashion, this is where the magic happens.

For some reason, even as a kid, this road has always captured my attention.

Unionville, it�s like a super �old town�. Established in the late 1700�s, I�d say it�s doing very well for it�s age.

Derek was trying to take a picture with this beautiful wall at the Pacific Mall when all of a sudden, these three bozo�s jumped in the picture out of nowhere. Hoodlums, pffft.

Congee is like Chinese people�s chicken noodle soup. It makes you feel better when you�re sick. Seeing how 9/10 is always sick, we had to stop by and eat at this bitch.

Ok, so you and your partners saw Harold and Kumar 2 and have been dying to visit Amsterdam so you guys can hit up some *bleep* caf�s and get *bleep* up, then head to the red light district to *bleep* *bleep* *bleep* *bleep* and get your *bleep* *bleep* *bleep*. Well, I can�t help you with most of the other bleeps mentioned here, but Downtown Toronto does have �special� caf�s around. And this is one of them. None of us went in�.. but the stuff that goes on in the upstairs patio will have you feeling like Snoop right before he goes on stage for concert� and during, and after. We've been quite busy lately. Making new connections, networking, traveling, working on new designs, and some of us making babies. It�s crazy to think that one of us is going to be a daddy soon. But don't worry folks, new editions to our already huge family is only going to make us grind even harder to bring you fresh new gear. So look out for us, coming to a store near you soon!

First thing all of us at nineoutof10 said when we decided to start this company was that we MUST rep L.A. After all, this is the place that influenced us most, and no matter what, will always be home.

Deep Thoughts

First off, I just want to apologize for the delay on the updates. I really wanted to take some time to talk about this event because it really meant a lot to me. Seeing everyone up there perform gave me goose bumps. I can�t speak for all the Asian Americans out there, but I myself felt really proud watching all the acts do their thing. I remember it was Magnetic North that mentioned somewhere in their lyrics about feeling faceless. And that�s why I feel it�s so important that more people in the Asian American community blow up in the entertainment business. We need more positive Asian American figures in the media, role models our younger generation can look up to.

Growing up, I myself always felt that I had problems with identity. As a kid, when I looked at the media, the only time I saw Asians was when they were the pathetic butt end of some fob joke, or some kind of triad gangster. None of these personas was the type that I wanted to identify myself with. I went through phases of the other different races I tried to act like. I felt shorted out of a hero or role model that I could look up to and relate with. I wanted a face that the public saw that wasn�t embarrassing or some kind of lowly criminal. It got to a point that I went through a fob stage where I just wanted to only listen to and watch Chinese media. How much more �roots� can you get then that right? But that didn�t work out. I realized that when I tried to fit into that crowd, we just simply couldn�t communicate. Hilarious right? My Chinese just sucked that bad, English was my first language. There had to be another way, I needed to find another outlet. I felt like that for awhile, but it wasn�t until many years later that I discovered something called myspace.

I went through the regular phase that everyone goes though upon first discovering myspace. You know, a few short weeks after I checked out EVERY girl there was to check out, I started to use it to look for Asian American artist. I somehow ran into Magnetic North first. My first impression was that they had really dope poetic lyrical content that is almost nonexistent today in present day hip hop. Next I ran into the Far East Movement. After I heard �Boom Shake�, I was like what the hell? These guys don�t have a record deal? This industry is fucking crazy. That�s a record I bang loud up and down Sunset. At the same time I was hearing other stuff on the radio that just made no sense. Someone even blatantly mentioned on their track that they don�t even need to say nothing on the track and still be hot. Most of the other stuff I was hearing at that particular time on the radio was a big mess of garbage. How the hell did they get on the radio? During that time FM hadn�t even got radio play yet. I been following them ever since. I was probably more excited then them when I first heard them played on Power 106. This wasn�t even the new at two yet. It was some kind of holiday weekend mix that DJ Virman was spinning. I started calling friends that I had linked FM�s myspace to previously to make them turn on the radio. I done lost my mind! �FM is on the radio! Round Round is on!�. My peeps was pissed cause it was like 1 in the afternoon and we were out partying the night before. By pure coincidence I bumped into Paul Dateh�s �Hip Hop Violin� on college humor and posted him on my myspace shortly after. Up until ISA, I didn�t even know his name. I�m glad I found out though, cause that kid has some sick skills and I�ll definitely buy his album. Seeing them all in one place made me feel like my search was over.

I heard somewhere that Asians are the model minority. The majority of us are docile and don�t stir things up much. We tend to avoid drawing attention to ourselves. We assimilate and generally don�t challenge authority, even if we are on the short end of the stick. Sure its great that some Asian Americans choose to go the route of higher education and try to attain high positions in white collar jobs. But what about the others that want to earn their living using their creative side. Acting, singing, rapping, dancing, and sports, yup, Asian Americans love those things too. And some of them want to make their living doing those things. But I feel that American society as a whole doesn�t give Asian Americans a fair chance in the entertainment business. I don�t have a list for you, but most Asian kids that grow up here have to move back to Asia to get a fair chance in entertainment.

I remember attending a Kollaboration stand up comedy event when comedian PK mentioned something about Asians at concerts. He said he felt sad for the artist performing cause when they would try to hype the crowd up, everyone kept their hands down. The joke was that if he was a rapper, he would tell the crowd to keep their hands down if they felt his performance. Whether you think this is funny or not, my experience is that this is mostly true. (Not to knock on the fans that showed up at ISA or PK, the fans were awesome, and PK is one of my favorite comedians.) I want so bad for that to change. They call us model minorities because they want us to shut up and listen. I don�t want to be the model minority. I want to be at the front lines with the other minorities fighting for equality, and getting our fair share of the American Dream and every aspect it has to offer.

Asian Americans have done so much for this country since its very conception up till present day. Yet our public image has changed very little since then. Asian guys rarely ever get the girl on TV or the big screen. Email me if any of you remember any other movies, but the only one I can think of is Harold And Kumar. Asian females in the big screen always go with non-Asians. As a result, my observation is Asian kids tend to be ashamed of their roots. They go out of their way to dress act and talk like other races. I�ve met girls that say they will only date guys that are non-Asian. Now I�m totally for interracial relationships because I feel all people of every color and creed are created equal. But it seems like the Asian girls that say they won�t date Asians are more ashamed of their own roots then anything else. My whole point is that I want my kids to grow up in an America that they can truly be themselves and feel comfortable in their own skin. Events like ISA empower our people through entertainment and we need to see more events like this. I know we veered off course from our normal light-hearted tone that you�re so used too. I now return you to your regular programming.

Welcome to ninoutof10!!!! First Entry!!

As I woke to the sounds of ocean waves crashing, I began to plan my day. The curtains rose as I activated the voice command to see the refreshing view of the ocean side. I tried my best to make my way, but it�s hard to move around the house with naked super models lying all over the place. Finally, I managed to make my way to the bathroom after navigating through the labyrinth I call home. Hmmm, what attire should I rock tonight for my nightly crime fighting sessions? Do I wear my underwear on the outside and dress up as a bat, or super glue tons of metal to my body? Besides that dilemma, the only other problem is when I have to wa� (Right on cue) *Obnoxious Alarm* I fight vigorously to reach the snooze button to get five more minutes but it�s no good. I was smart enough to put the alarm clock just out of arms reach the night before. I�m violently forced back into reality. I turn on the radio to start my day for real now. NWA comes on with Eazy-E rapping �woke up quick, at about noon, just thought that I had to get to Compton soon�� Ironic, because I drive a delivery truck for my day job and I�m scheduled to go to Compton today to make a delivery. Now I�m no rookie, so I�m not even going to bother to try to find out why I�m butt ass nekid with my shoes on my bed. In situations like that I�ve found that it�s better not to find out at all. I was smart enough to set up the alarm (butt ass nekid possibly), but I was not smart enough to say �no� to the last few shots the night before. You see, my buddies and I were rocking out wildly to the melodic sounds of Signal Hill over in Echo Park. They are really cool dudes and talented as heck. Maybe that would explain the nekidness, but like I said, it�s better to not ask questions. Anyhow, as the first entry I would just like to close with this thought. The spectrum of characters that live in Los Angeles is so wide that it covers all walks of life. From the billionaire super hero playboys, to the working class average Joes, all the way down to the homeless and insane. Nineoutof10 is our project and we wish to express to you all our views and outlook of this crazy place we call home here in Los Angeles California. The San Francisco Trilogy Part 3

One of my main philosophies has always to keep balance in life. With that in mind, after the night before, �everything in moderation� is out the f�ing window. That means it�s time to do some major footwork and heavy grinding. We find out that day that everything looks much closer when you�re looking at it from a GPS map. Luckily our hangovers caused extreme laziness, prompting us to call a cab. At first we were beating ourselves up in the cab, complaining that we wasted money. But twenty minutes into the cab ride, we realized we would have been fools to walk. If we didn�t take the cab, we would have missed all our appointments made that day. Who would have known that hangover laziness would save the day. We even got to meet this crazy character on the cab ride. Imagine a dude with straight up Russian accent, talking with hip hop slang. �You guys from LA? Oh man I love checking out the bitches at the beaches. The breezy�s in LA are fine!� We did our best not to laugh, but dude was mad chill though. Just goes to show how far hip hop has come along. All in all, I just got to say that is was a trip to remember. Or half remember, whatever.

The San Francisco Trilogy Part 2

Day 2, we decide to use this day to sight see and do a little partying. The main anticipation of the entire trip was the steamed crab at the wharf. We have beaches here in LA, but I just can�t explain why the seafood tastes so much better at San Francisco�s wharf. If you ever visit, don�t forget the bread bowl while you�re at it.

So now this is where we start partying right. Start it off with some hookah.

Somehow after that, things really start to go downhill. The rest of the night plummets into a downward spiral of debauchery, loud noises, lots of loud noises, and somehow Home Land Security shows up. No lie. I�m going to have to see if I can post up pics of that. But that�s another story for another time. But our legal counsel advised us to leave the rest of the pics out for now, and NEVER ever let it leak out to the public.

The San Francisco Trilogy Part 1

A few short weeks prior, one of the homies found an amazing deal on bus tickets to San Francisco. One dollar per ticket from the �Mega Bus�, sounds too good to pass up don�t you think? We thought it was a good opportunity to rock our shirts on the road and have some fun in the process. This was probably our very first dead line we had to meet since during the time the tickets were booked, we had no shirts printed what so ever. Pretty good practice, but we somehow made the shirts just in the nick of time. Printed out the very day we were scheduled to leave. So there we were, ready to embark on an eight hour bus ride. Although it seemed much shorter in actual, but I�m sure the Old English malt liquor had something to do with that.
Before the trip started, we had already heard rumors that the bus drivers were no nonsense with their schedule. They say that if you late even one minute, homeboy wouldn�t hesitate or skip a beat to take off and leave your ass stranded right in the ass crack of nowhere. With that in mind, during the half way rest point, I really needed to drop a dooky bomb. So as soon as the bus stopped, I took immediate action. Unknown to my knowledge, my dooky time had expired. Back on the bus, the driver was already in gear and moving. My friends were all in panic, �Where is Mike?!� Luckily my girl was able to run out to flag the driver down. As soon as she takes her first step on the bus, she shouts out right there at the front of the bus, �WAIT! MIKE IS TAKING A SHIT!!!!� The whole bus goes into a up roar of laughter. Thanks babe, you saved me a long walk. So by the time I get back on the bus, the entire bus load of passengers go into a long round of applauds. �HEY MIKE!!! YOU MADE IT!!!� Me being an idiot, I start waving to them like I was the fucking Pope. I wouldn�t find out till much later the drama that had occurred while I was doing my duties on my throne.
